Dancing is the Best Medicine with Just Dance: Disney Party 2

by Jennifer Wieland
Just Dance: Disney Party 2 is now available on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Nintendo’s Wii and Wii U systems.

My daughter loves to dance! You can always find her listening to some new song and making up a dance routine to go along with it. Since she loves to dance so much she is a HUGE fan of the Just Dance video game franchise. She also just so happens to be a lover of all things Disney, so the Just Dance: Disney Party 2 game was something she really wanted.

One day last week my daughter came home from school cranky and in a bad mood. That’s just not like her. She is usually very bubbly and excited to tell me all about her day. Then I noticed her nose was a little runny and I realized that the ups and downs of our weather temps had set off her allergies again.

Just Dance: Disney Party 2 is now available on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Nintendo’s Wii and Wii U systems.

Once I showed her the surprise I had in store for her, the Just Dance: Disney Party 2 game she perked up pretty darn quick! We’re talking jumping up and down and squealing while begging to play immediately.

Moving, grooving and twirling to the moves of the game were most definitely a hit with my daughter! Just Dance: Disney Party 2 features more than 20 tracks from the hottest Disney Channel hits, with songs from movies like “Descendants” and “Teen Beach 2” as well as shows like “Girl Meets World” and “Liv and Maddie.”

Just Dance: Disney Party 2 is now available on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Nintendo’s Wii and Wii U systems.

She’s been through all of the songs and dances but her two favorite ones are Better in Stereo from “Liv and Maddie” and Can You Feel It? from “Austin & Ally”. I have to confess that even I have been getting my groove on with her playing this game.

Star Wars Cereal – Bring The Force to Your Breakfast Table

Star Wars Cereal - Bring The Force to Your Breakfast Table

I remember as a kid watching the Star Wars movies with my dad, a certified sci-fi fanatic. I loved the movies so much I would make my mom fix my hair in Princess Leia style buns on the side of my head. When Return of the Jedi came out my sister and I each begged and pleaded until we each got our very own Ewok stuffed dolls. One of the clinchers for falling in love with my husband was that he was as much of a sci-fi geek as I was and that he was a Star Wars fan. Oh yes, The Force is strong in my family and household. So much so that we even have a child named Luke. My husband and father both walk around doing heavy breathing and then saying, Luke, I am your father.” Since our Luke is Autistic he can be very particular about his food choices. Cereal is his absolute favorite breakfast food; if it has marshmallows in it even better. So, was I excited to see that there is now Star Wars Cereal complete with marshmallow shaped bits that will bring The Force to your breakfast table!

Star Wars Cereal - Bring The Force to Your Breakfast Table

To make Star Wars Cereal a fun treat for the family you can choose two different packages. That way your young Padawans can choose the side of the Jedi or the Sith. There is also a Darth Vader package that has a board game on the back of the package for fans to play as they enjoy their delicious cereal.

Disney Countdown Dry-Erase Board With Printable

by Jennifer Wieland
Disney Countdown dry-erase board & printable #disneyside @DisneyParks

My parents own a vacation home in Wisconsin and we go there several times a year. The drive is manageable for our group and up until this point we have not done any other traveling as a family since our older of the two on the Autism Spectrum was a baby. That is all about to change though. I believe that my two on the Autism Spectrum are now doing well enough to be able to handle traveling on a real family vacation now. I am not baby stepping my way into this either. No, we are going all out on a trip to Orlando and the kids can’t wait to go someplace new and get to go to Sea World and Walt Disney World. There are some nerves about the plane ride but otherwise they are giddy with excitement. To help them get ready and to stop asking me how much longer until the trip I made this Disney countdown dry-erase board with printable that has a fun Mickey Mouse theme.

To make this Disney countdown dry-erase board you will need the following things:

Mickey Mouse themed printable

A picture frame

Dry-erase marker

Download and print the Mickey Mouse themed printable by clicking the picture below. Place the print into a frame of your choice. Use dry-erase markers to write in the days remaining until your trip. Update daily until it’s time to go on vacation.

Now each day, myself or one of the kids can update the countdown calendar so they know how close the trip is getting. I’m pretty sure by ten days left they will be bouncing off of the walls and impossible to settle down but I can’t wait to go and take them on a trip I know they will just love.

Handmade Disney Frozen Knit Elsa Hat

by Jennifer Wieland
Handmade Disney Frozen Elsa Hat

The things we do as mothers for our children! I love my kids to bits and I always want to see them as happy as possible like every other parent with their child but sometimes I know I can get a little carried away. Since January of this year Ellie has known that she was going to be Elsa for Halloween. Like many other little girls Elsa and Anna are the end all be all in Halloween costumes this year. We had planned on her using her No-Sew Elsa Dress that I made her just before my cruise but that one has become her play dress that she wears around the house all the time. No, for her she needed the real dress! Luckily I found a deal on that a few months back on Jane and ordered it for under $20. She was blissfully excited to see it arrive and I had to hide it at the top of her closet to keep her from it. Then she hit me with, “I want to have Elsa hair!” I know you are thinking what’s the big deal just get her the wig. The problem though is that she has had some dress up wigs for Snow White and Strawberry Shortcake and she hated them. She did not like keeping them on. So I was excited when Jane had a handmade Disney Frozen knit Elsa hat complete with braid.

The hat was adorable but I had a couple of problems with the ones I saw online. First off, each one had a blue crown knit into it. Now, I am more neurotic than most people but Elsa does not where a crown once she changes into her blue gown and lets her hair down and the crown she did have had been small and gold. My second issue was that the hats were made from white, white yarn. Elsa’s hair is not white, white but an off white, cream blonde sort of color. My third problem was that the braids were small and only attached to the very back of the hat. Lastly, my issue was that the hats were pricey to me. Last winter I taught myself to arm knit and then regular knit and I have made scarves and blankets but I had never made a hat. So of course I decided to teach myself to knit a hat and make my Elsa hat.

Handmade Disney Frozen Elsa Hat

Now I am not going to go into details because there are way better videos and instructions online than what I could ever provide as a novice knitter but I did want to share that I was able to successfully make a handmade Disney Frozen Knit Elsa Hat for my daughter and that she completely loves it! I simply knit a flat hat and then added fringe all the way around for the “hair”. I used 2 48″ pieces for each one. I then styled the “hair” by twisting two sections of fringe and adding another two all the way to the back on each side. I then braided the “hair” and tied it off with some yarn and then trimmed the end up so that it looked nice. Best part, it only cost me $2.75 for the yarn and she can wear it all winter now.

Now, if you are like I was and want to learn how to knit I found the video series for beginner knitting on KnittingHelp.com to be a great help to me.

No-Sew Frozen Elsa Pillowcase Dress

by Jennifer Wieland

I am flying out in the morning to head to Brandcation 2014. I had a 101 things to get done today. So how much have I gotten done you ask? Why almost nothing on my list except for a couple quick things and finished up packing. I did however get wrangled in to making a project that I have been planning for a week by a five-year old who could wait no longer. A week ago while shopping at the craft store I was in the fabric department randomly browsing the clearance fabrics looking for nothing in particular when I spotted some blue organza with clear crystal beads on it. As soon as I saw it I thought of Disney’s Frozen and Elsa’s train on her dress. My daughter has been fixated on this movie, soundtrack and toys for weeks now. She is currently watching YouTube videos of “Let It Go” in different languages and trying to learn to sing the song like those too. I fear if she does not stop soon there may be some sort of retaliation from the male members of the household. I’m thinking Family Guy’s Surfin Bird episode is about to become a reality here but with Frozen.

So today, Miss Ellie comes up and begs me in her sweetest voice possible with sad eyes to, “Please momma make my pretty Elsa dress for me before you go.” How am I supposed to say no to that kind of guilt? I have not been away from her like this before and maybe if she had something I made for her it would help her deal with the separation. At least that’s how I’m trying to rationalize it in my head. So I did what any guilt ridden mother would do, I gathered up all of the supplies and set to work on making a little five-year old girl very happy today.

I can sew but I am just to lazy to pull out the sewing machine and I hate being all precise in my measurements so I like to wing it and turn things in to no-sew items. That’s what I did here by using Liquid Stitch and Stitch Witchery and they both worked perfectly.

Frozen Elsa Dress 2

No-Sew Disney’s Frozen Elsa Pillowcase Dress

Supplies:

1 pillowcase (Standard size for a small child or king for an older one.)
1 yard of beaded organza (This will work for the standard sized pillowcase.)
Liquid Stitch or Stitch Witchery (Liquid Stitch works better in my opinion.)
About 4 feet of ribbon
scissors
straight pins
damp washcloth
iron

 Directions:

Measure you child and determine how much length you need to take off the pillowcase. My daughter is 5 and wears a size 6 and I cut off about 3″ to make her a tea length dress. You will cut the material from the short end that is stitched closed already. Once you have done that you will want to add in some more arm room on each side so cut a 3″ J shape out of the end you just cut to open the pillowcase.

No-Sew Frozen Elsa Pillowcase Dress

This is how the pillowcase should look after the closed end being cut and with the J cuts.

Next you will “sew” what you have cut with the Liquid Stitch. You will start by turning the pillowcase inside out and working on the J cuts. Just place the Liquid Stitch along the edge there and fold the material over. Follow that by doing the top on both the front and back. You will need to fold this down about 1 1/2″ so that there is a gap to feed the ribbon through later. Place the Liquid Stitch under the edge of the fold you made. This will need to dry for 30 minutes.

No-Sew Frozen Elsa Pillowcase Dress

Use the Liquid Stitch to “sew” the pillowcase. Sorry it’s blurry I was shooting without my tripod.

After the pillowcase is dry you can then take the organza and stitch the seems along the length using the Liquid Stitch. You will need to let it dry for 30 minutes so you will need to work in stages. I then pinned the organza to the pillowcase dress and attached it using the Liquid Stitch. Remember to be sure NOT to “stitch” over the ends of the pillowcase where you left the openings for the ribbon.

No-Sew Frozen Elsa Pillowcase Dress

You are only stitching the organza to the top and armholes.

Trim the length of the organza to how long you want the train to be and then using the Liquid Stitch again stitch the edge. Finally, you can run your ribbon through the openings and tie the end together to form the straps of the dress. Have your child wear this over a white or very pale blue long sleeve shirt.

No-Sew Frozen Elsa Pillowcase Dress

She wore this all day.

She is even wearing it while sleeping and I got so many kisses and hugs from her today.

Do you have any little ones in your life who love Disney’s Frozen?
