Marriage Survival Basket

Marriage Survival Basket

Spring is almost in the air now and that means spring and summer weddings are right around the corner. On coming up in my life is for my brother who is getting married next week. This past weekend was the bachelorette party which I wasn’t able to attend but wanted to send a gift. I know a lot of people think of bachelorette parties are all about dirty gifts but that’s just not my thing. I wanted it to be something that celebrates and pokes fun at the highs and lows of marriage. That’s how I came up with the idea for a marriage survival basket.

For my marriage survival basket I wanted it to include fun, useful and silly items. Things that would make the bride laugh when she read the card and what each item was for. I did also want them to be truly useful though because anyone who’s married knows there are definitely both good times and bad.

Ear plugs

Love note cards

A store gift card

Edible body paint

Silly sex book

Chocolate… lots and lots of chocolate

A nice basket

Printed note card (You can print out the one I made or create your own but definitely use some cute card stock paper to print it on.)

Cellophane wrap

A bow or ribbon

Tissue paper or newspaper

Place your items into your basket and place them in an aesthetically pleasing way. Use the tissue paper or newspaper to raise, lower and protect items from banging. Attach the printed note card and then use the cellophane wrap to wrap up the basket. Close the top of the cellophane wrap by wrapping a bow or ribbon around the bunched up cellophane at the top.

If you use the same items and want to print of the note card I used then just click on the picture to download and print the file. Be sure to use some pretty paper to print it out on to make it pop!

Happily Ever After Printable

Happily Ever After Printable

I love a good love story. I sob at the end of a romantic movie when the guy gets the girl. I get teary eyed when I watch a viral marriage proposal on the internet. I read romance novels like they are going out of style. Basically, I am one hopeless romantic! That’s not a bad thing. Especially when Valentine’s Day the most romantic day of the year is right around corner. In honor of all of the love, romance, flowers, chocolates, candlelit dinners and bow chicka wow wow I decided I wanted to make a Happily Ever After Printable!

This Happily Ever After Printable is a tribute to every classic fairytale. I wanted to create something that looked like an aged page from an old world story about princesses, their handsome princes and nefarious plots. **sigh** I decided to go for an antiqued or aged page from a book look. As if you had just opened the story and were about to start reading a glorious tale complete with over the top, elaborate fonts. I think I succeeded in my goals for a romantic, wistful print.

For this Valentine’s Day or to add a romantic touch to any room in your house. All you have to do is download the printable and print it off. Pop it into the frame of your choice and there you have it, a lovely piece of art for your home or a romantic gift ready to be bestowed upon your fair maiden or brave knight.

How To Make a Great Loves Print

How to make a Great Loves Print - My Sweet Sanity #DIY #Craft #wedding #anniversary

Late last week my brother and his fiance became proud homeowners for the first time. They bought a home a short drive from my parent’s house and the kids and I got to go and take a tour of it on Friday. Whenever I go visiting to a new home for people I know I always like to bring them a little housewarming gift. Since this was the first time since college that either of them has lived on their own they need pretty much everything. I decided to gift them with a Thirty-One Room For Two Utility Tote filled with all sorts of things from measuring cups and spoons to toilet paper to detergent and bleach and a lot of other goodies. The one goodie that I was really proud of and the only one I made for them was a framed Great Loves Print. I had so much fun making it for them and they loved it so I would say it was a good idea. Now, I want to teach you how to make a Great Loves Print for yourself or to gift at a housewarming, bridal shower, wedding or anniversary for someone you know.

The idea for the Great Loves Print is not my idea. In fact, I have seen them for sale in different variations on Jane.com in the past. I couldn’t find a link to a current one. On Jane.com the prints usually sell for $9.99 plus shipping. Now that is just for the print. There’s no frame or anything else. I was able to create the print and have it printed on card stock at OfficeMax and buy a frame with a matte in it from JoAnn all for a mere $7. That’s right and that’s a whole heck of a lot cheaper.

This is the print I made for my husband and me.

So how does one make this totally awesome print?

It’s easy and here’s how…

Go to picmonkey.com, go to design and select your size.

You will be taken to the above screen and put into the Canvas Color. Select the background color that you want for your print and clink on the Apply button.

Next you will need to click on the Tt icon along the left hand side. It will take you to the text window. Select the font you want to use. You can either use Picmonkey’s fonts (The ones with crowns by them are for paying users but not to worry there are a lot of free ones.) or you can click on Yours and use any of your fonts on your machine. You will click on the font and then on Add Text. This will open a text box and another box for the text properties. Select the color and size for your font here. Be sure to copy the font color you use so you can just paste it for the rest of the text boxes. Type a couple and size it to fit they way you want. Continue to do this for each couple making sure to match up the sizes. I like to move the text boxes over one that is already done to make sure they match up perfectly. The actual couples name should be somewhere near the middle and it should also be in bold with a gap between the names to place the heart.

This is what it should look like when you have all of the names in and are ready to add the heart.

Click on the heart you want to use and it will place it on your picture. Adjust it so that it is sized and centered correctly between your couple’s names. You can change the color of the heart (most will have two colors) by clicking on the boxes and selecting colors from the color grid or by manually typing in a color code.
